Screw Air Compressor Maintenance Five Checks That Help Prevent Downtime
Oct 30 , 2026

A well-planned screw air compressor maintenance routine supports reliable air delivery and helps teams schedule servicing around production. For oil-injected screw compressors, five areas deserve regular attention: operating records, cooling, lubricant and filters, drains and leaks, and preparation for the next service. Inspection methods and replacement intervals should follow the supplied manual and actual site conditions.

1. Review operating trends. Record operating pressure, temperature, running hours and controller warnings under comparable loads and ambient conditions. A temperature that gradually rises from its usual range deserves investigation, even before an alarm occurs. Record unusual noise or vibration too, so the service team can assess changes against the machine’s operating history.

2. Keep cooling air moving. Check that cooling-air openings remain clear and inspect cooler surfaces for dust buildup. On air-cooled machines, restricted airflow or hot exhaust returning to the cooling inlet can reduce cooling effectiveness. Plan cleaning around the manufacturer’s instructions and workshop conditions, with closer attention in dusty environments.

3. Track lubricant, filters and the separator. Check lubricant level using the specified procedure, and record service dates for the oil, inlet filter, oil filter and air/oil separator. Increasing compressed air pressure drop across a filter or separator at comparable airflow warrants investigation. Use approved lubricant and correctly matched parts, and follow scheduled replacement intervals even when readings appear normal.

4. Check drains and leaks beyond the compressor. Verify that condensate drains operate as intended: a blocked drain can allow water to accumulate, while one stuck open can waste air. Include receiver drains, pipe joints and hose connections in routine inspections. Log leak locations, arrange repairs and recheck them afterwards to confirm the repairs were effective.

5. Prepare for the next service. Confirm spare-part references, technician availability and access before service is due. HUADA’s SV-50+ permanent magnet VSD screw compressor has an external oil separator that provides direct access for scheduled maintenance. Qualified personnel should follow the supplied shutdown, isolation and depressurization procedure before physical servicing. Share your model, serial number, operating hours and site conditions when you contact HUADA for maintenance guidance and a recommended spare-parts list.
